Acidic Water 

Water is considered acidic if the pH of the water is below 7.0. A basic symptom of acidic water is a blue-green discharge seen in sinks and  bathtubs.  The blue-green stain is a result of water "eating away at pipes" which is called corrosion.

Corrosion can be defined as the destructive disintegration - the "eating away" of metals due to electrochemical action. There are three basic types of corrosion:  Oxygen, acids, galvanic action.

When the corrosion of metal occurs, the same reaction occurs with all 3 corrosion producers; ferrous iron is produced. The basic iron metal is consumed, flaking away almost as quickly as it is  created; corroding your pipes, damaging faucets.
